Weight Loss with Whole Grains
Here are a few tips:
-
High fiber foods, such as whole grains, are both filling and satisfying.
-
Since fiber is not digestible, so up to a third of the calories from high fiber foods are excreted undigested.
-
In a study done at Michigan State Univ. overweight young me were told to consume 12 slices of bread a day in addition to whatever else they ate. They were advised only to minimize their consumption of high-calorie sugary foods such as doughnuts and to avoid alcohol. After 8 weeks the men who ate ordinary white bread had lost an average of 13.7 pounds while those who ate high fiber bread had lost an average of 19.4 pounds.

I advise those who are trying to shed a few pounds to consider reducing the oil and honey called for in our Basic Bread Dough recipe from 1/3 cup each to 1/4 cup each. It is a painless way to eliminate some calories and still get all the benefits of the freshly milled whole grain bread and rolls.
